What happens in the event of a Dead-Heat ?
What happens when two or more competitors finish an event in a tie? This is a Dead-Heat, meaning participants can't be separated by judges, timings, and a photo finish. This could happen in a variety of scenarios, like runners crossing the finish line at the exact same moment or teams ending a tournament with identical scores.
So, what happens to your bet in such a scenario?
When a dead-heat occurs, the way your bet is settled changes slightly. The total amount of your wager is divided by the number of competitors involved in the dead-heat. This adjusted wager is then used to calculate your returns at the full odds you were originally offered.
For instance, imagine you've placed a bet at odds of +500 on a competitor that ends up in a dead-heat with two others for the top spot. Your wager would be divided by three (since three competitors are sharing the first place) at the original +500. If your bet wins, you'd receive +133 of the original stated winnings.
This can also be applied to Win/Place bets.
If you have placed a wager at +500 W/P and one other selection along with your own is deemed to have finished in a dead-heat for second place, the wager would be divided by two. You winnings will then be adjusted accordingly and shown on your Bet Slip.
